Subject lists provide a way to browse—in a coordinated overview—all the documents on a topic or category that was a particular focus of Darwin’s science. These catalogues are especially useful since for most Darwin subjects, the totality of extant documents is made up of varied types (manuscripts, books, specimens) that are found in widely scattered parts of the Cambridge and Down House archive or elsewhere.
