CHRONICLES

In 1532, Spanish invaders took control of the Inca empire. The new Spanish government treated the native people very poorly, transforming their traditional way of life. An Andean native named Guaman Poma wanted to show the king of Spain what native life was like in the Inca empire. He also wanted to show the king how unfairly his people were being treated by the Spanish colonists. His “chronicles” of Inca life included 1,200 pages and nearly 400 drawings. The chronicles have given us an amazing look at traditional Inca life.
