Halls of Gems and Minerals

There are about 114,000 specimens in the Museum's collection: 90,000 minerals, 20,000 rocks, and 4,000 gems. The Newmont Azurite, found in a Namibian mine in 1952; the Star of India, world's largest blue star-sapphire; and the Patricia Emerald, an exceedingly rare specimen found in the Colombian Andes in 1920, are among visitors favorites.
