Leaves and flowers such as this one trapped in Dominican amber reveal that the amber was produced by a now extinct tree of the legume family, genus Hymenaea. While today thirteen of the fourteen living species of Hymenaea grow in South and Central America, the closest relative of this Dominican amber tree appears to be the one species currently found in Africa.
